Given all the Google Home deals this last holiday season I wanted to see where Google stood in the Smart Home & Smart Assistant arena. In this report, we look at Google Trends, and listing counts from Ebay and Craigslist.

“Google Home”, “Alexa”, “Siri” were used in the searches. Note that “Google Home” being two words results in less matches but surprisingly in terms of no. of listings on both eBay and Craigslist it came out ahead. It’s also not entirely accurate to compare to “Alexa” and “Siri” since they are not devices but the actual assistant names but the idea was to get at least a general gist. “HomePod” resulted in few matches in comparison.

Google Trends Ranking — Worldwide

#1 Alexa

#2 Google Home

#3 Siri

Link to Results

Ebay Listings — Worldwide

#1 Google Home — 6,186 listings

#2 Siri — 5,637 listings

#3 Alexa — 3,012 listings

FYI, HomePod — 146 listings

When comparing “Google” and “Echo” in the Smart Speakers, Hubs & Accessories category, “Google” comes ahead 7,045 listings vs “Echo” 6,473

Craigslist.org Listings — SF Bay Area

#1 Google Home — 752 listings

#2 Siri — 321 listings

#3 Alexa — 293 listings

FYI, HomePod — 17 listings

Conclusion

Google Home is inching up on Amazon’s Alexa despite a late start and never being sold on Amazon.com. In addition, the number of Google Home devices being listed on secondary markets is outpacing its competitors. Overall, Google Home looks like its gradually becoming the Smart Home device of choice.

Another metric for comparison: @madebygoogle on Twitter has 203k followers vs @amazonecho which has 127k followers.
